About Us
About us
Did you know that the Gwent portcullis logo was from the old Monmouthshire coat of arms? This is because Gwent were originally known as the Monmouthshire Centre.
The Monmouthshire Centre was formed on 1st January 1970, as a result of a meeting called in September 1969, by a group of South Wales Centre members to form a new Centre. This meeting voted in favour of the formation of a new Centre, the Monmouthshire Centre. The Monmouthshire Centre was renamed “Gwent” as a result of the Local Government re-organisation in 1974.
Our first Chairman was Mr Doug Payne, who chaired the Centre from 1970 to 1972. His son has also been our Chairman and rallies with us on a regular basis.
Gwent Centre celebrated its 45th birthday in 2015 at a celebration Rally held in Pont Kemys.
Rally Programme
Gwent Centre are very proud of the fact that they are able to present a comprehensive Rally programme every year. Some of the rallies are celebration rallies which commemorate a special moment or anniversary in the history of the Centre whilst other rallies might have a theme such as the very popular “pudding rally”, "Bake-Off Rally", Halloween, New Years Rally or a Country and Western theme for example. What is guaranteed however is the opportunity to site your van and relax and enjoy some of the wonderful scenery around you and of course catch up with friends.
Our Rally Programme is listed on the website, so have a look and book soon to make sure of a space.
The Centre hosts a Dinner Dance for members in January of each year. Its a wonderful opportunity to dress up and have a great time in wonderful company.
As a Centre we try to run a holiday rally in the summer each year. Last year we held a very successful holiday rally in Camp Regenbogen, Bad Liebenzell in Germany and some of our recent home summer holiday holiday's have been held in Cornwall, Devon and Ireland to name but a few. Please see the website for details of forthcoming rallies and any rally updates.
We welcome ideas for new rally venues or themes for rally's, so if you have any thoughts or ideas or would like to assist in running a Rally please speak to our Rally Secretary or any member of the Committee.
