Chairman's Annual Message

Dear Centre members,

It is with great pride and honour that I can write to you again in my 3rd year of office as your Chairman of the Gwent centre.

Yet again due to the ongoing Covid pandemic, the year started off very quiet with rallies still having to be cancelled. We finally managed to get out and about from April – what a relief for us all! Rallies were somewhat different for us all with no social events happening, even Sunday coffee around the flag curtailed in its normal format. But it didn’t keep us down! We managed to carry out virtual events for the normal Bake-off rally and the Easter rallies by entering photographs of our bakes, and even held a boules competition, with strict social distancing – after all we were quite experts at this by now!  So, the year progressed, getting more and more freedom doing what we all love best.

Given that COVID is still very much a part of our lives, you will find a section in the rally book on the rules and regulations concerning Covid-19, please take time to read and digest this information and be prepared for it to alter as the Governments legislation changes. This will help to keep us all rallying knowing that when we are able, we can do so safely.

Looking forward to the new season in 2022, we have some new venues and are revisiting some old favourites, I hope you agree that the programme is varied and there is something for you all.

We have a holiday rally in France in July and are hoping for a home holiday rally during the school holidays, please keep an eye on the Gwent Centre web site for further details.

We welcome old and new faces into the committee this year, with a great blend of experienced ralliers who will endeavour to bring some fresh ideas into the centre and take us onwards and upwards even further. May I take this opportunity to thank my committee.

Again, this year we have a Youth committee. I want to give thanks to Chloe Jones for her continued hard work and commitment to the youth and the centre.  This year the Youth committee has grown in number, which is fantastic, and they will be encouraging members who have their children and grandchildren with them, as well as us, out onto the rally field to join in. The Youth committee have made lots of plans for events to keep us all involved in during the coming year so I would ask that you support them as often as you can.

If you have youngsters in the family who would like to join the committee, please get in touch with the Youth Liaison officers, Jane Shiels and Seren Gunningham and my thanks go out to them both.

May I express my thanks to those Centre members who have offered to run rallies and events for the Centre. Without their effort and time, which they give freely, none of us would be rallying. Your dedication and commitment cannot be faulted. Thanks also must also go to the landowners who allow us to use their land and facilities. We are, as always, looking for rally officers to be able to fulfil the rally calendar, if you can offer to run, or help to run a rally, please get in touch with any committee member.

Finally, I would like to thank you, the members, for all your support to the Gwent centre. Without you, none of this would exist.  Like you all, I am looking forwards to the coming year, to get out there, make more happy memories, rekindle old friendships and welcome new friends into the fold. As it has been said before, we have always been known as the friendly centre - long may this continue!

May I wish you all a prosperous New Year and happy rallying in 2022 and I look forward to meeting up with you out on the rally fields soon.

Kindest regards

Sian Hesketh
