Ile d'Offard, Saumur, Loire Valley

Uniquely located in ten hectares of parkland, on an island in the middle of the River Loire and within a few hours’ drive of Caen ferry port, 299km, approx. a 3 hour drive, (also Calais Ferry 656km, approx a 6 hour drive), this campsite has magnificent views of the cliff top Château of Saumur.

It is also within easy walking distance of the historic and medieval town, which has a vibrant and bustling centre. Nearest town of Saumur is 1km.

Camping Ile d’Offard is a modern site, where pitches are level and grassy, separated by small shrubs and named after local wine producers. Pitch with 10A electricity: approx 90m2

Facilities are well maintained and include a terraced bar and restaurant, which overlook the large swimming pool and sunbathing area, and free WIFI which is available throughout the site.

                                            

 

Some of the on site activities include: Badminton, Swimming, Volleyball, Cycle Hire and Table Tennis

Evening: Ooh la la French evening! - fancy dress and Cheese and wine

 

Tuesday

Free and easy day - loads to see and do in the area

Evening: Boules tournament commences

 

Wednesday

Free and easy day

Evening: Boules tournament continues.  Free and easy BYO evening in the rally officers “beer garden”.

 

Thursday

Excursion to the Zoo - (additional costs)

Free and easy day

Evening - Hawaiian Night - don those Hawaiian shirts and grassy skirts for a Party night as only Gwent can do with a BBQ! Get ready to limbo!

 

Saturday

Free and easy day - why not take a trip to  Le Mans - 2 hour drive - for the Le Mans museum and beautiful scenery?

Evening:  free and easy BYO evening in the rally officers “beer garden”. Boules tournament continues.

 

Sunday

Free and easy day - Fancy some sea and sand? La Tranche-sur-Mer is a beautiful coastal town - 2 hours drive

Monday

Free and easy day - fancy some beautiful scenery? Why not take a drive along the Loire valley to explore the numerous villages and churches and the odd chateau. Numerous to see - see who can count the most!

Tuesday

Free and easy day - Why not take in the town of Saumer. Plenty of things to see, e.g. The Le Cadre Noir national riding school of France, The Mushroom factory museum  and even a Tank museum! Don’t forget of course the chateau that the site is in the shadow of! There are also plenty of bars and café’s to sit and watch the world go by.

Evening: American supper at the rally officers “beer garden”. Please see the rally officers in advance to get an idea of what to bring so we get a nice varied supper.

 

Wednesday

Day out to the stunning medieval town of Tours with a visit to the Irish pub! Names into the rally officers in advance to see if we can organise some car sharing.

Evening:  free and easy BYO evening in the rally officers “beer garden”. Boules tournament concludes.

 

Thursday
Easy day - Why not visit one of the numerous vineyards and stock up on that red wine to take home

Evening - join us at rally officers beer garden for an evening of a BYO BBQ (supplied by you but cooked by us) with fun and games! “Werewolf” hosted by Dave Winston and the “Game of blocks”   £3 or €3 euro coins required to play - winner takes all!

 

Friday
Free and easy - time to chill out, maybe a walk into town for some last minute souvenirs of your holiday and a final visit to the local café’s and bars.

Evening - Join us for flag in the rally officers beer garden where the winner of the boules will be announced and a raffle (any donations greatly received) Being a glass and a plate for cheese and wine to finish off the holiday.

 

Saturday

Rally closes   time to head back to Bella Riva in Caen.
Late afternoon walk along the canal to Pegasus bridge about 40 minutes or in the evening talk a walk to see the ferry arrive on the raised platform and stop for a final French beer or coffee.

 

Sunday

Sunday morning leave site at 7am for ferry home then enjoy the boat trip back to Portsmouth  and your onward journey home.
